The Color Collector Willamette Valley Gamay 2022 is a vibrant expression of this Burgundian varietal, capturing the essence of Oregon's unique terroir. Crafted by winemaker Bethany Kimmel, this Gamay embodies a spirit of freedom and a dedication to showcasing the grape's natural elegance.
Kimmel, a Willamette Valley veteran with experience at renowned wineries like Soter Vineyards and Analemma, founded Color Collector in 2015 with a focus on sourcing unique, old-vine parcels of Gamay. Her passion for the varietal and her meticulous approach to winemaking shine through in this expressive wine.
The 2022 vintage marks a milestone for Color Collector, as it's the first produced in their own winery facility. This newfound freedom is beautifully reflected in the wine's label, "Freedom of Flight," featuring birds in homage to a special kingfisher family observed by Kimmel and her father.
This Gamay is crafted with a gentle touch, allowing the fruit to speak for itself. Hand-destemmed grapes undergo native yeast fermentation in open-top vats, followed by basket pressing and aging in neutral oak. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added SO2, preserving its natural purity and vibrancy.
The result is a Gamay that is both elegant and powerful, bursting with bright, juicy red fruit flavors and a precise structure of acidity and tannins. It's a wine that embodies the spirit of the Willamette Valley and the artistry of Color Collector.
