The Catena Alta Malbec 2018 is a masterpiece born from the Catena family's century-long dedication to Argentine winemaking and their pioneering spirit in high-altitude viticulture. This exceptional Malbec represents the pinnacle of their craft, showcasing the very best of their historic vineyards.
Crafted from meticulously selected grapes grown in the family's high-altitude vineyards, this wine is a symphony of flavors and aromas. Its deep violet hue hints at the rich and complex experience that awaits. On the nose, elegant notes of ripe red and black berries intertwine with delicate floral scents of violets and lavender, along with subtle nuances of leather, spice, and vanilla.
The palate is a revelation of luxurious textures and concentrated flavors. Silky smooth tannins and a well-structured body carry the essence of cassis, black currants, and blackberries, accented by hints of licorice and black pepper. The finish is remarkably long and vibrant, with a beautiful minerality and lingering notes of dark fruit.
This wine is the result of meticulous winemaking practices, including hand-harvesting, fermentation in small batches, and aging for 18 months in French oak barrels. The Catena family's dedication to quality shines through in every sip, making this Malbec an unforgettable experience for any wine lover.
The 2018 Catena Alta Malbec shows more evolution and ripeness than the 2019. It's varietal and floral with a mixture of red and black fruit, sweet spices and aromatic herbs. It has moderate ripeness—in fact, it's a little lower in alcohol than the 2019—a medium body and fine-grained tannins, with good grip. 162,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2019.
