Dead Reckoning South Pacific 10 Year Rum, finished in a Muscat cask, offers a complex and intriguing profile. Distilled using a combination of pot and column stills in the South Pacific, this rum underwent a full ten years of tropical aging, resulting in a remarkable 50% angel's share.
The aroma presents an herbal quality reminiscent of St. Lucian rum, with pine cones, potpourri, and eucalyptus. Further exploration reveals molasses, toffee, and sweet vanilla, evolving over time to include menthol, light tar, and cigarette smoke. This rum rewards patience, revealing layers of complexity with each nosing.
On the palate, a spicy barrel influence is immediately apparent, with oak and sweet vanilla notes. The herbal character intensifies, bringing forth pine cones and eucalyptus. A carbolic/soapy element adds another dimension. The mid-palate evolves with sooty and tarry notes, alongside elements reminiscent of Fijian, St. Lucian, Caroni, and Jamaican rums.
