Uncork a taste of the Cypriot mountains with Vouni Panayia's Alina, a captivating white wine crafted from the island's indigenous Xynisteri grape. This family-run winery prioritizes sustainable practices and hand-crafted techniques to capture the unique essence of the region.
Alina's journey begins with hand-harvested grapes grown on ancient, ungrafted vines thriving at high altitudes (800-1150 meters). These phylloxera-free vines, some reaching up to 100 years old, benefit from the steep slopes and dense planting, all meticulously managed by hand.
Drawing nourishment from a unique blend of limestone and schist soils, the grapes develop a vibrant acidity balanced by subtle minerality. Indigenous yeasts guide the fermentation process, further emphasizing the grape's natural character. Alina rests for eight months on its lees in stainless steel tanks, adding complexity and texture.
On the nose, Alina offers a captivating bouquet of wet pebbles, peach, grapefruit, and lemon. The palate is terrifically defined with a delightful interplay of minerality, chamomile, lemon blossom, and acacia. Vibrant acidity and a touch of residual sugar create a refreshing and balanced finish.
Alina pairs beautifully with shellfish, grilled seafood, light pasta dishes, fresh vegetable salads, and both fresh and salty cheeses. Made with vegan practices, this wine is a perfect choice for a variety of palates and culinary adventures.
