The 2020 Railsback Frères Grenache Noir Cuvée Spéciale is a vibrant expression of Santa Barbara County's unique terroir. Crafted from 100% Grenache Noir grapes grown in two distinct organic vineyards in Los Alamos, this wine captures the essence of the region's marine influence, resulting in a fresh and lively character.
Inspired by the traditional winemaking practices of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Railsback Frères embraces native wild yeasts and includes whole clusters in fermentation to create a wine with bright, crunchy flavors and delicate floral aromas. The vineyards, Nolan Ranch and Shokrian, contribute unique characteristics to the final blend. Nolan Ranch's Alban clone, grown on steep slopes with San Andreas Tierra loam soil, brings depth and concentration, while Shokrian's clone 362, from sandy loam soil, adds a vibrant acidity and freshness.
Aged for fourteen months in neutral French oak, this Grenache Noir boasts a dark, slightly tinted hue and a complex nose of smoky herbs and blackberry fruit. The palate is well-balanced and persistent, with a hot coating fruit and fine tannins that lead to an exceptional finish.
Decanter awarded this wine 95 points, praising its purity, drinkability, and character. Enjoy this Grenache Noir with plant-based soupe au pistou, lamb sausages, or burgers off the grill.
