João Tavares de Pina, the visionary winemaker behind Quinta da Boavista, has created a cult-favorite with his fifth vintage of Orange wine, the 'Rufia' 2022. This captivating wine is a field blend of 53% Cerceal Branco, 20% Encruzado, 15% Siria (Roupeiro), 6% Boal (Malvasia Fina), and 6% Bical, sourced from the Dão region's unique terroir.
The grapes for this extraordinary wine are grown on organic vineyards, rooted in the region's signature granitic soils interwoven with ancient marine sediment and clay. The vineyards themselves are a haven of biodiversity, boasting chamomile, clover, serradella, and even eucalyptus among the vines.
This wine undergoes a unique co-fermentation process, where the grapes macerate on their skins for seven days, followed by an additional two weeks of skin contact. This extended maceration time extracts a beautiful golden orange hue and imparts a delicate balance of tannins, acidity, and a nuanced depth of flavor.
The Rufia 2022 entices with rich and deep aromas of apricot, peach, almonds, and dried fruits. The medium-bodied palate delights with a harmonious balance of tannins and acidity, creating a truly unique and satisfying experience.
