Argentina may have added Southern Hemisphere sex-appeal to the Malbec grape, but Francophiles will stand by classic Cahors every time. The Vigouroux family helped revitalize the Cahors appellation in the early 70s by replanting vineyards that hadn't been properly managed since being ravaged by phylloxera. Gouleyant translates roughly as "gulp-able," and this intro to Cahors delivers plenty of full-bodied berry, cocoa and subtle licorice notes — without losing balance through the lush finish.
