One can discover the alluring 2020 Chardonnay from Platt Vineyard, cradled within the picturesque Sonoma Coast. Harvested on September 13th, this wine is a result of the distinctive Wente clone. It experienced a natural fermentation process, achieving a balanced pH of 3.32 and a titratable acidity (TA) of 6.7. With an alcohol content of 13.7%, this Chardonnay provides a moderate body.
Its aging process extended over 13 months on lees, with 10% in new French oak, 25% in a concrete egg, and 25% in a neutral Austrian foudre. This careful process culminated in its bottling on November 15th, 2021. With a limited production of 250 cases.
The 2020 Chardonnay unveils a tantalizing palate of watermelon, lemon rind, and sea spray, underscored by a profound acidity and a lingering finish. Platt Vineyard, located in the western hills near Sebastopol, covers 31 acres and is a mere 5 miles from the Pacific coastline. The vineyard benefits from elevations ranging from 425-800 feet and a cool climate, with vines planted on sandy Goldridge loam soils facing southwest.
The 2020 vintage posed challenges due to wildfires, but fortunately, most of the home ranches and a few other vineyards were harvested before the fires. The wines produced are beautiful, and they are shared with pride.
Ehren Jordan, the vintner, possesses decades of experience in vineyards and cellars spanning the Rhône Valley, Paso Robles, Sonoma County, and the Willamette Valley.
