Drood Winery, the first Persian winery in the world, has recently introduced its latest creation, the ARIOBARZANES The Warrior 2021 white wine, and now available at Union Square Wines in New York City.
Founded in 2022 and based in Gemla, Sweden, Drood Winery imports all of its grapes directly from Persian vineyards, using 100% indigenous Iranian grape varieties. The vineyards are located in the South-Western parts of Iran, in the Zagros Mountains, where traditional winemaking has been part of Persian culture for thousands of years. In fact, scientists found traditional winemaker's clay jars dating back to the Neolithic period more than 7,000 years ago, providing the first scientific proof of the ancient nature of Iranian wine production.
Drood Winery selects only premium grapes from the farmers of the Zagros Mountain region, using ancient native varieties that have been growing for hundreds of years.
The winery's tools and techniques of winemaking are modern and experimental, yet they aim to produce classic Persian wines. Handcrafted in Sweden, Drood Winery's founder and winemaker, Shahram Soltani, aims to establish an international reputation for Persian wine and bring back Persia on the map of winemaking.
