This family-run estate is situated in Castel di Lama in the Ascoli Piceno region, in southernmost Marche, with vineyard holdings (45 ha) straddling the Abruzzo line. The main vineyard, in Offida, is hilly (280-350m), with eastern exposure and a loose clay soil. First planted in the 1950s, the winery is managed today by proprietor/winemaker Quinto Fausti and his son Alighiero. Gambero Rossonotes that the Faustis practice “rigorous quality selection of the fruit,” ensuring that their whites and reds are among the finest values in Italy. All wines fermented with native yeasts. Certified Organic: IT BIO 009 3342
A 50/50 blend of estate Sangiovese and Montepulciano, vinified by a soft pressing of the grapes to extract only the free-run must, maceration on the skins for just a few hours, and controlled-temperature fermentation in steel. Slightly pinker than a Provencal rose but much lighter than the cerasuolo style popular in Abruzzo, this is fully dry and lip-smacking, with aromas and flavors of tangerine, watermelon and dried herbs. Great with a Caprese salad on hot summer evening. (from the importer)
