Colpetrone ‘Memoira’ Montefalco Sagrantino offers a decisive and powerful expression of Umbria's most celebrated grape, crafted by one of the region's key estates within the esteemed Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG. This wine is a pure representation of 100% Sagrantino, one of Italy’s oldest and most characterfully tannic grape varieties, demanding meticulous care in both the vineyard and cellar to balance its inherent intensity with elegance.
From the heart of Montefalco, Còlpetrone employs high-quality farming with intentionally low vineyard yields to achieve exceptional concentration and complexity in the grapes. The winemaking process is equally thoughtful, featuring fermentation and an extended maceration period at controlled temperatures, utilizing gentle extraction techniques like pumping over and délestage. The wine then matures for 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by further refinement in the bottle as part of its required minimum 37-month aging journey.
The result is a wine with an intense ruby red color and an ample, inviting nose of red fruit, warm spices, a subtle hint of vanilla, dried fruits, and a touch of chocolate. On the palate, it is fresh and remarkably well-structured. While the powerful, concentrated tannins are evident in its youth, they resolve into a long and surprisingly velvety finish. This is a strong, gastronomic wine, perfect for serving in large glasses alongside roasted red meats, rich, elaborate dishes, and aged cheeses.
