Catherine & Pierre Breton Trinch Bourgueil 2023 offers a wonderfully vibrant and accessible expression of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. Crafted by Catherine and Pierre Breton, iconic pioneers of the natural and biodynamic wine movement in France, "Trinch" (named after an old word for "cheers!") is designed for pure, youthful enjoyment. It perfectly captures the Bretons' philosophy of honest winemaking rooted in deep respect for their Bourgueil terroir.
Sourced from the estate's younger, organically farmed Cabernet Franc vines (averaging 20-30 years old) grown on gravel, clay, and limestone soils, the grapes are carefully hand-harvested. In the cellar, a gentle, low-temperature maceration using only native yeasts lasts about 18 days, focusing on extracting fresh primary fruit aromas rather than heavy tannins. The wine then rests briefly in wooden tanks until an early spring bottling, preserving its lively character with only minimal sulfur added.
The result is a delightful, easy-drinking Bourgueil loaded with fragrant brambleberry and red fruit aromas, accented by intriguing hints of spice and leather. Its tannins are soft and approachable, making it perfect for enjoying right away, perhaps even slightly chilled. Raise a glass of "Trinch" – a delicious and authentic introduction to the captivating world of Breton and natural Loire Cabernet Franc.
