Bojo do Luar Duplo is a captivating and unconventional red wine from the heart of Portugal's Vinho Verde region, offering a pure expression of the late-ripening Espadeiro grape. This wine is a testament to the Bojo do Luar project's "monastic winemaking" philosophy, which thoughtfully revives ancient, natural techniques to craft singular, low-intervention wines that vividly speak of their origin.
Sourced entirely from the organically farmed vineyard of Rui Paiva in Felgueiras, the 100% Espadeiro grapes are hand-harvested by three generations of the Paiva family, a beautiful start to this wine's journey. In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and gently foot-stomped in 100-year-old 'talhas' (traditional clay amphoras). Following a unique regional tradition championed by Bojo do Luar, finely ground chestnut flower is added to the grapes as a natural stabilizer before a slow, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts begins. The wine then undergoes an extended three-month maceration on its skins within the sealed talhas, a patient process that builds remarkable texture and depth.
Bottled unfiltered with only a minimal touch of sulfur, this 13% ABV red wine is vibrant, structured, and alive. Expect a palate defined by the Espadeiro grape's characteristic bright, high-toned acidity, with notes of tart red fruits like cranberry and sour cherry. This is interwoven with an earthy minerality from the granitic soils and clay amphoras, all supported by fine-grained tannins from the long maceration. This is a truly unique and expressive taste of Vinho Verde's red potential.
