The final makeup of the blend varies slightly each year. This is because of thevagaries of the vintage.
We feel that Chenin Blanc is best suited to be the heart of the blend and that is whyit forms the biggest portion of the blend. The aromas are very complex and changeconsiderably in the glass. Perfume, spice, tea, stone fruit and citrusblossoms aresome of the notes that can be detected. In the mouth the texture and ripeness andgentle tannins result ina wine that has incredible length andcomplexflavour profile. The wine alsohas wonderful fruit volume characterised by stone fruit and mineralflavours. The finish is long and has slight phenolic edges supporting the fruit throughthe entire length of the wine. (from the proprietor)
Aged in old foudres, the 2017 Family White Blend is scented of fresh bright yellow orchard fruit spinning out of the glass with a slightly pithy white spice. Medium to full-bodied, the weight and texture of the wine are well crafted and complex and will pair effortlessly with food. There is a touch of phenolic bitterness that lends to its textural appeal.
The 2017 Kalmoesfontein White Blend is a crisp, linear, slight leaner style of white compared to Adi Badenhorst's Chenin Blancs. This demands a little coaxing from the glass and displays a slight resinous aspect. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and vibrant, offering a touch of honesysuckle and dried quince toward the finish. It is a more "honed in" style of White Blend from Adi this year, but it works well. NM
