Maraska Slivovitz Old Plum Brandy offers a genuine taste of Croatian tradition. This pure, natural spirit is crafted in Zadar, on the scenic Adriatic coast, by Maraska, a producer with deep roots in the region's distilling heritage. It stands out as a classic example of Slivovitz, the famous plum brandy enjoyed since the Middle Ages.
The process begins with exceptional fruit: the finest ripe blue plums sourced from the Adriatic Hinterland. This area is globally recognized as the second-largest plum-growing region. Significantly, Maraska uses only plums from mature trees, ensuring they are no less than twenty years old, adding depth to the base ingredient.
Following a special fermentation lasting three months in large tanks, the spirit undergoes double distillation. This traditional technique is key to achieving the brandy's signature purity. Afterward, the Slivovitz rests for a minimum of two years in specially treated 500-gallon oak casks. This maturation period allows the flavors to meld and mellow beautifully.
At 40% alcohol, this brandy delivers the authentic character of carefully selected plums. For those observing dietary laws, Maraska Slivovitz is also meticulously produced under strict supervision to be certified Kosher for Passover.
