Dive into the depths of the Santa Maria Valley with Scar of the Sea's 2022 Vino de los Ranchos Pinot Noir, a captivating blend that harmonizes two distinct vineyards into a symphony of coastal-inspired flavors.
This wine, a meticulous compilation of five separate picks from Rancho Ontiveros and Rancho Vinedo Vineyards, showcases the vibrant character of both young and old vines. Organically farmed and fermented with native yeasts and partial whole clusters, this Pinot Noir is a testament to the delicate balance of nature and craft.
The nose opens with alluring aromas of stone and gravel, giving way to a symphony of juicy raspberry, cranberry, dried herbs, and a hint of Earl Grey tea. On the palate, the wine is light-bodied yet remarkably concentrated, with a finely chalky texture and vibrant acidity. Notes of red plum, goji berry, black cherry, and savory herbs intertwine, creating a complex and lingering finish.
Scar of the Sea, founded by Mikey and Gina Giugni, is a testament to their love of wine, the ocean, and the unique terroir of California's Central Coast. Their minimalist approach in the cellar allows the true essence of the grapes and the coastal influence to shine through in every bottle.
The 2022 Pinot Noir Vino de los Ranchos comes from two vineyards, one planted in the 1970s and one in the 1990s, and was vinified using 30% whole clusters. Stone and gravel dust give way to raspberry and cranberry on the nose, plus accents of dried herbs and Earl Grey tea leaves. The light-bodied palate is finely chalky and super fresh, with notable concentration, complexity and spiciness, and it has a long, ethereal finish.
