Complex blend of molasses-based rums meticulously vatted to commemorate Black Tot Day, July 31st, which marks the day in 1970 when Parliament decided to end the age-old practice of rum rationing in the British Royal Navy · For this bottling, Black Tot’s 50th Anniversary blend (released in 2021) was re-casked in ex-sherry butts and barrels. Additional world rums aged between 9 and 24 years were added to the blend along with a small amount of rum from Black Tot’s precious reserve of the original British Royal Navy rum blend. · Primary components comprising the blend include rums from Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica, and Australia · Minimum age of 9 years; the solera nature of the blend’s oldest components could see ages of 100-plus years! · Rums have seen both Tropical and European aging · A magnificant nose of gingersnaps, purple flowers, toasted allspice & clove, shortbread, toasted apples, and Café Brûlot leads to a complex palate of apricot skin, crêpes topped with crème fraîche, thyme, red burnt peanut candy, and smoked cedar. Clove and sea salt linger pleasantly on the moreish finish. A true joy to sip. · Non-chill filtered and no sugar added · 54.5% ABV · 960 bottles released to the US
The ultimate infinity bottle! The British Royal Navy continuously blended rums in a solera-style system to produce rations for its sailors—distillate, time, and environment combined to produce a blend that could never be mapped or duplicated. Black Tot continues this tradition, however, over 50 years since “the day the rum died”, with a bottle that embodies rum history, both figuratively and literally! A must-have for any true rum aficionado.
